Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Friday that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-construction of one crore urban houses from which about 30 lakh houses were built and 57 lakh houses are under construction.
Demand for 1.12 crore houses told reporters in his office that an estimated 12 million houses are in demand in the country's urban areas, from which one crore cheap houses were approved. The largest housing scheme in the urban world that provides financial assistance to poor people to build houses.
Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that all sections of the society have been taken care of under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He quoted the figures as saying that 5.8 lakh senior citizens, two lakh construction laborers, 1.5 lakh domestic workers, 1.5 lakh craftsmen, 0.63 PwD, 770 eunuchs and 500 leprosy patients have also been covered under the scheme. She said that women empowerment is a major part of the scheme and the house will be owned by a woman member of the family or jointly. Investment of Rs 5.70 lakh crore through scheme so far The Union Minister said that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has given a lot of boost to the residential sector.
So far, 5.70 lakh crore rupees have been invested in the residential sector through this scheme, in which the central government's share is 1.6 lakh crore rupees. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, assistance of Rs one lakh to Rs 2.67 lakh is given as assistance to the Center to build cheap houses. So far, 60 thousand crore rupees have been released under this head. Under this scheme, 1.12 crore houses are to be built in which the total investment will be about seven lakh crore rupees.
1.20 crore employment opportunities available Puri said that about 1.20 crore employment opportunities were directly available through this scheme. Besides this, there has been a boost for 250 industries such as steel, stone, cement, paint, hardware, sanitaryware. He informed that about 568 lakh tonnes of cement will be required in this scheme, out of which 178 lakh tonnes have been used. In addition, 130 lakh tonnes of steel are needed, of which 40 lakh tonnes have been used to build houses.
